Officers reported they were notified by a man who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior representative said the incident left him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
